a feature length movie
The Saviors opens like a classic horror movie; mysterious, ominous, scary.
On a murky midnite in a cloudy cemetery shadowy figures rob a grave then drive on twisting mountain roads to a stone castle deep in thick woods. Dr. Emilio Meyers, an aging, brilliant professor and Nina, his idealistic med student ‘assistant’ operate on the stolen body.
Classic horror morphs into futuristic medical fantasy as the good doctor and his faithful assistant working in their gleaming hi tech lab confirm that the corpse shares a feature with others in Meyers' secret project; a curved, triangular mass located near the heart.
Later Meyers discovers that Eva, a patient, has a similar growth; more important, she is the first living person. But Eva works for Sheldon and Roger, agents of ‘big pharma’; her 'growth' is a decoy to ensnare Meyers. They need to steal his theory for a secret ‘cure’ which harnesses dna to give cancer patients a temporary illusion of healing … at astronomical cost.
Axel is a ‘visitor’ from another dimension disguised as a medical student, sent to save the human race from a disaster beyond description and rescue earlier visitors, trapped in an aborted experiment. Unaware of his true identity Sheldon and Roger have hired Axel to spy on Meyers.
When Axel meets Nina he immediately knows that her consciousness is beyond advanced, wondering if she is descended from those early visitors. Nina feels a connection she never thought possible. Yes, they become lovers.
When Axel’s student ‘project’ interferes with Sheldon and Roger’s work they ‘monitor’ him, almost discovering who ... or what he really is.
Meyers decides to operate on Eva to remove her tumor and analyze it in a controlled environment. It will require keeping her in a coma for a week; Nina is horrified.
As the plot twists and turns every character reveals contradictory facets; exactly
who is loyal to whom is not always clear.
The final ‘showdown’ almost results in victory for the grotesque forces of evil until
Axel sacrifices the ‘everlasting life’ of his world for the human act of procreation.
The Saviors is low budget, hi tech fantasy, a surreal version of Adam and Eve and
a bright, tho slightly conflicted, future ....
